We design Mineral process circuit flow sheets for a wide range of processes/treatments
such as complete silica sand washing plants, mineral ore dressing, fine coal
washing plants and contaminated soil washing plants. <br>
<br>
<strong>MEP</strong> has developed wide and substantial experience in designing and supplying
this type of equipment.<br>
<br>
All of these processes use water to wash and separate the material and in many
circuits the effluent water also has to be treated, either to make it suitable

<h1><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1">Hydrosizer/ Teetered Bed
Separator (TBS)</font></h1>
<p><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1">The Hydrosizer/TBS is used
by a wide range of Mineral Processors to beneficiate and classify minerals generally
< 5 mm in size. Minerals such as:</font></p>
<ul>
<li><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1">Silica sand is treated
using the TBS/Hydrosizer to produce high-grade sand for concrete products,
for glass making or foundry use. The process can also incorporate the removal
of contaminants such as Lignite and fish from the sand.</font></li>
<li><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1">It is also used in Coal
Preparation, treating both run-of-mine coals and the recovery of coal from
waste tips.</font></li>
<li><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1">Ore Dressing.</font></li>
</ul>
<p><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1"> The Hydrosizer/TBS is a
hindered settling classifier which, utilises an upward current of water to create
a bed of material within its cell, the material held in the cell is in a state
of 'teeter' and it comprises a narrow size band. When particles that are larger
(or heavier) enter the cell they penetrate the teetering material and those
that are finer or lighter are displaced to the overflow. By employing an accurate
sensing device with a constant flow of upward current water, well defined separation
is achieved.<br>
<br>
Each machine is manufactured to exacting standards with abrasion resistant linings
where necessary and utilises an Electro/Hydraulic control system, which can
if required operate in conjunction with PLC & computer controlled systems.<br>
<br>
There is a range of single cut production machines from the TBS 900 to TBS 3000.<br>
Other machines using the same principles include the Multi Spigot Hydrosizer
often used as a pre-concentrator prior to shaking tables and the Hydrolig developed
to remove deleterious matter such as lignite and fish from sand & gravel.

The removal of contaminants from aggregates used in the production of concrete
is likely to become standard practise for operators processing riverbed or marine
dredged aggregates. <br>

Operators treating deposits with high levels of silt would also benefit from
using the Hydrosizer/ TBS. <br>

<h1><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1">Thickeners and Clarifiers</font></h1>
<font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1">MEP Ltd supplies a comprehensive
range of Thickeners & Clarifiers to satisfy most requirements and the designs
are continually updated to meet today's standards and requirements. <br>
<br>
The range is based on two types of mechanism: </font>
<ul>
<li><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1"><strong>LSG Series Thickener
rake Drive Mechanisms</strong>.<br>
A heavy-duty drive mechanism with automatic rake raise and lower</font></li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1"><strong>X.L. Series Thickeners</strong><br>
A heavy-duty but simple rake driving mechanism.</font></li>
</ul>
<p><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1">The <strong>LSG Series</strong> comprises
a spurgear and pinion drive system with automatic raise and lowering of the
rakes and specially designed to cope with conditions where fluctuations in the
feed solids demand flexibility from the Thickener. Its design is heavy-duty
to deal with the rigours of mineral processing. <br>

There are three torque ratings available to accommodate various tank diameters
up to 40 Metres:-</font></p>
<p> <font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1"><strong>LSG 30 </strong></font></p>
<p><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1"><strong>LSG 45</strong></font></p>
<p><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1"><strong>LSG 60</strong></font></p>
<font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1">The principle features are:<br>

The prime mover of these rake drive mechanisms is an electro-magnetic induction
coupling, which also gives an indication of the torque loading on the rakes. A
signal of the torque loading is transmitted to automatically control the height
of the rakes.<br>
<br>
As the load transmitted through the rakes reaches a pre-determined level the rakes
raise to the top of the accumulated sludge. This enables the thickener tank to
provide surge capacity at high feed conditions. When the torque on the rakes drops
back, the rakes then follow the top of the sludge down until they reaches equilibrium
at the lowest point.<br>
<br>
In the unusual event of the rakes stalling, due to an excessive load or an obstruction,
the main drive mechanism will slip, preventing damage to the rake arms.<br>
<br>
There is also an audible alarm that gives warning of a build up within the tank.

<h1><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1"> X.L. Series of Thickener
/ Clarifiers</font></h1>
<font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1">The XL series provides a rotation
only mechanism for less arduous duties where fluctuations in the feed rate to
the thickener can be handled by a variable speed underflow pump.<br>
<br>
This model has been designed to meet the demand for a rugged but simple and cost
effective unit. <br>
<br>

<h1><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1">H.C. Thickeners.</font></h1>
<p><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1">The HC Thickener range is
a complete free standing unit of mild steel construction incorporating our XL
drive and consists of both tank, superstructure and drive mechanism mounted
above ground on a prepared concrete slab. It is easily transported to site and
quickly ready for use.<br>
<br>
HC series tanks can be supplied from 2m diameter to 12m diameter and maybe designed
around the specific requirements of the customer.</font></p>
<h1><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1">Tank Designs</font></h1>
<p><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1">We offer a wide range of
standard as well as custom designed tank designs including:</font></p>
<ul>
<li><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1">Mild steel conical (HC).</font></li>
<li><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1">Mild steel conventional
with sloping base.</font></li>
<li><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1">Mild steel conventional
with flat base.</font></li>
<li><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1">Mild steel shell walls
mounted on a concrete base.</font></li>
<li><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1">The units can also be
manufactured to fit a concrete tank provided by the customer.</font></li>
</ul>
<h1><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1"> General</font></h1>
<p><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1">The following points are
worth noting:</font></p>
<ul>
<li><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1"> The feed rate to a Thickener
and the settling rate of the solids will vary. </font></li>
<li><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1">Larger thickeners are
better able to cope with higher feed rates.</font></li>
<li><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1">A larger Thickener will
generally require less operator attention.</font></li>
<li><font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1">You are unlikely to complain
that your thickener is too big</font></li>
</ul>
